Take our Daughters and Sons to Work

No one can dispute the fact that children are our future; well almost no one can dispute that.

Recently I did a search for holidays that celebrate children. I was elated to mark down that April 24, 2008 is ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.’ However, my bubble was soon burst when I started digging into the sordid past of the supporting foundation and their founding sponsor.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of sharing our work spaces with our children. I think that it is a fantastic way to show different professions to future generations in a hands-on way. We need to be able to show children all the different vocation opportunities available to them. However, this cannot come at the cost of opening our children up to an organization whose very goal is to destroy family.

Started in 1993, the original title was Take Our Daughters to Work Day and was founded under the Ms. Foundation. Ms. has a long standing reputation of attending events with Planned Parenthood and Ms. Magazine. The original program was founded financially by Ortho Women’s Health, a unit of Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc. Ortho-McNeil’s parent company is Johnson and Johnson, which still gives money to Planned Parenthood.

It puzzles me, after discovering the founding “mothers” of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, that the program exists at all. After all, Planned Parenthood’s big money maker is abortion. Gloria Steinem, one of Ms. Magazine’s founding editors, is proudly featured wearing the “I had an abortion” shirt and telling her abortion story from 1969 in the film Speak Out: I Had an Abortion. Ortho-McNeil’s big money maker is oral contraceptives, which can cause early chemical abortions prior to implantation. This is even stated as one of the three mechanisms of how hormonal contraceptives work and is listed in the full prescribing information in each of their oral contraceptives.

How can these companies possibly celebrate the joy of children, God’s gift of life, when their main purpose is to quash the lives of our most innocent preborn? The answer is that they cannot, but the rest of us can. Those of us truly dedicated to our children can celebrate life by helping them see their future more clearly by taking them to work and explaining the truth about abortion.

So celebrate our children on April 24, but do not fall victim to the abortion backed celebration hosted by the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation. Celebrate our children’s futures and their lives!
